![]() The new Insight uses similar tech, but only 150 combined hp with a 120 hp electric motor, and I believe its in the high 7's for acceleration. Note, the Accord still regens the batteries when using the normal brake pedal also, but you do lose some efficiency if you brake hard. It defaults to mild regen on coasting, but the most aggressive regen will bring you from 50mph to a crawl within a couple hundred yards. They are not necessary and my mom will probably never use them, but you can use these paddles to increase and decrease the regenerative braking while coasting, which allows you to dedicated almost all of your braking into regen for the batteries and prevents you from having to use the brake pedal except to come to a complete stop or emergency situations. Also, the 2.0L gas engine in the hybrid doesn't have the same tech that is having issues with the other Honda motors with oil dilution, which I believe has to do with the direct-injection system on the 1.5L turbo engine.Īn added driving dynamic feature on the Accord which I really found amusing was the addition of the flappy paddle regenerative braking selectors on the steering wheel which as a manual driver, I enjoy having some input into driving a car. We also returned 49 mpg on our drive home from the dealer which is great. Since it's driven almost purely by the electric motor (no gear changes), it has a similar feel when accelerating as a Tesla, albeit slower. ![]() ![]() The hybrid Accord is actually much quicker than the 1.5L turbo base engine Accord with 0-60 around 7.0s (which is about the quickest for a non-luxury, base engined sedan that you will find), and it has a unique hybrid system that uses a pretty substantial electric motor (180hp, 200ft-lb torque) to move the car instead of the engine (except for at highway speeds where the engine slips in another 30+ hp when needed). I just recently did a lot of research for my mom who commutes about 50 miles round trip mostly looking between the Camry and Accord hybrids. Made a decision and getting ready to make a purchase?
